What Is CSSMP?

The Coalition for Sustainable School Meal Programs is people coming together to assure that school meal programs can continue to be there for kids, providing healthy meals and fighting hunger.

With Publication of a FINAL regulation on school meal menu planning, the focus shifts to implementation.  CSSMP will continue to update this website as new guidance is issued.  All stakeholders are encouraged to submit questions to their state agencies and USDA to generate as much clarity as possible moving forward.

USDA Publishes Final  School Meal Regulation

On January 25, USDA released the final regulation for school meal patterns.   The new menu pattern requirements will become effective on July 1, 2012 for lunches, and July 1, 2013 for breakfast.  You can read the regulation here.  USDA has made three charts available - the final meal patterns, the timelines for implementation, and a comparison of current meal patterns with the new requirements.

USDA has already published the first of what is expected to be a number of guidance materials for implementing the new regulations.  This guidance is in the form of a Q &A.  You can read the guidance here
